Geography
Located in the East Midland region , in the southwestern part of Lincolnshire , on the Watham River.
History
In 1598, the Francis Trigg Library with Chained Books was opened in Grantham, which is the oldest library of its kind to allow access to books for people not related to the clergy or education. In particular, the citizens of Grentham and the suburbs had access there. The library still exists, and can be called the forerunner of the modern system of public libraries.
On May 13, 1643, near Grantem, the “iron-sided” regiment of Oliver Cromwell defeated the royalist forces that were twice as numerous in number, thus laying the foundation for the victories of the parliamentary “Army of a New Model” .
In 1797, the Grantem Canal was opened and worked until 1936, connecting the city with the Trent River [1] .
At the beginning of the 19th century, entrepreneur and engineer Richard Hornsby founded an agricultural equipment company in Grantham. Since the 1840s, the company began production of steam engines, and later produced tractors, oil and gas engines [2] .
Since 1889, the city was part of the administrative county of Kesteven . The county lasted until the 1974 reform and included Lincolnshire. The name of the county is preserved in the name of the districts of Lincolnshire North and South Kesteven .
Economy
The A52 motorway ( Skegness - Grantham - Bingham - Radcliff-on-Trent - Nottingham ) crosses the city from east to west, the A1 road ( Edinburgh - Newark-on-Trent - Grantham - Peterborough - London ) from north to south.
The East Coast Main Line branch connects the city with Kings Cross Station in London [3] .
The Scottish publishing company Johnston Press publishes the local Grantham Journal in Grantham. [4]
Included in the postal area of Nottingham, which corresponds to the code "NG".
Politics and Power
In the elections to the House of Commons since 1997, the city belongs to the Grantham and Stamford constituency. From 1997 to 2010, the district was represented in parliament by Labor Quentin Davis, and from 2010 - Conservative Nicholas Bowles. Until 1997, elections were held in the Grantem constituency. From 1951 to 1979, Grantham County was represented by Conservative Joseph Godber in Parliament, and from 1979 to 1997 by Conservative Douglas Hogg.

Culture
The city is based on the Grantem Town football club, which plays in the 2012/2013 season in the Premier Division of the Northern Premier League . From 1987 to 1989, the club's head coach was Martin O'Neill .
Ten kilometers west of the city is Beaver Castle Manor, three kilometers north is Belton House Mansion , eight kilometers south is Stoke Rochford Hall Manor. In the city itself is the Church of St. Tungsten [8] .
