Staremberg ( Starhemberg , formerly Starchemberg ) is an old Austrian princely and count family, originating from Gundakkar, who built the Storhenberg castle in Upper Austria in 1176.
In 1643, Staremberg was elevated to imperial count, in 1765 - to princely dignity , in 1803 - to mediate . They owned three baroque palaces in Vienna and several castles in Upper Austria.
From this genus came:
- Salzburg Archbishop Eberhard (occupied the chair in 1427-29),
- Ernst Rüdiger Staremberg (1899-1956) - leader of the heimwera , Austrian vice chancellor, married to actress Nora Gregor ;
- Ernst Rüdiger von Staremberg (1638-1701) - Austrian Field Marshal;
- Maximilian Lorenz von Staremberg - Austrian Field Marshal;
- Guido von Staremberg (1657-1737) - Austrian field marshal.
