Mickey Dale “Mike” Beebe (December 28, 1946, Amagon , Arkansas ) is an American politician representing the Democratic Party . 45th Governor of Arkansas (2007—2015).

Biography

Early years

Bib was born in Amagon , a small town in Jackson County, Arkansas . He was raised by his mother, who worked as a waitress, and never met his father. In childhood, they often moved. They lived in Detroit , St. Louis , Chicago , Houston and Alamogordo ( New Mexico ). They eventually returned to Arkansas, where Bib graduated from Newport High School in 1964.

In 1968, Bib received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Arkansas, where he was a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity . In 1972, he received a bachelor of law degree from the University of Arkansas. Bib was a reservist in the U.S. Army, after which he graduated from law school and spent ten years practicing law at Searcy , White County.

Political career

In 1982, Bib was elected to the Arkansas Senate, where he worked for 20 years. In 2002, he was elected Attorney General of Arkansas and held this position until being elected Governor.

On June 14, 2005, Bib nominated himself as governor of Arkansas. In the November 7, 2006 election, Bib won with 55% of the vote. He walked around former congressman and head of Republican Drug Enforcement Administration Asu Hutchinson and independent Green Party candidate Roy Brian. On January 9, 2007, Bib was sworn in [1] . For 2008-2009 he was elected to the executive committee of the Association of Governors-Democrats.

As governor, Bib tried to cut taxes for the middle class [2] . But mainly Bib was focused on educational reform. He developed a program that was aimed at teacher development in Arkansas. In addition, he made plans for the phasing out of a tax on utilities for manufacturers [3] . Bib also presented a 12-point plan for making healthcare more affordable and affordable [3] .

In the 2010 gubernatorial election, Bib defeated former Republican state legislator , gaining 64% of the vote against 34% of his opponent [4] . He was sworn in on January 11, 2011 in the rotunda of the Arkansas State Capitol.

In January 2011, he announced that he supported the increase in toll collection [5] .

Personal life

Bib and his wife Ginger have three children and seven grandchildren.
