Michel Chamillard ( French Michel Chamilliart ; January 2, 1652 - April 14, 1721 ) - French statesman, who, under the auspices of Madame de Maintenon, held the post of Minister of War in 1699-1707.
Biography
Michel Chamillard began serving as an adviser to the Paris Parliament ; later was quartermaster in Rouen . In 1701 he was appointed Minister of War; also in charge of finance . The establishment of a trade council, the reduction of vacation taxes, the concession of uncultivated state land to farmers, the promotion of colonial trade - these are the events that marked the beginning of its activity.
The restoration of the poll tax and new issues of rent were justified by the costs of the War of the Spanish Succession . The same purpose was served by the early collection of taxes, the creation and sale of countless posts, the lowering of the value of coins, lotteries and bank notes with a forced rate. His military administration was not happier, and the appointment of the commander in the Turin campaign of his son-in-law to the Duke of Lafeyad caused general displeasure and did not justify himself at all.
Dejected by failures, Shamillar began to bother about the resignation which was given to him by the king with great reluctance. In financial management in 1708 he was replaced by Demare , and in the War Department - Voisin.
