Meshcherinov, Ivan Alekseevich

Ivan Alekseevich Meshcherinov (first half of the 17th century - the end of the 17th century) - the voivode, suppressor of the Solovetsky uprising .

The brethren of the Solovetsky monastery in 1658 decided not to accept the books corrected under Patriarch Nikon , and in 1663, it spoke out against the “new orders”. Conviction measures did not work, new archimandrites were not allowed into the monastery. In 1668, the government sent a military force against the rebels, however, banning to shoot at the monastery. Only in September 1673, Mescherinov was ordered “to steal and revolt to eradicate soon” by any measures. Despite disagreements among the besieged, only on January 22, 1676, with the help of a traitor, Mescherinov captured the monastery. With the inhabitants of the monastery, Meshcherinov was barbarous, all the trees around the monastery were hung with the corpses of monks, some of the monks were driven out by Meshcherinov on the sea bay and were frozen there. After that, he was convicted on charges of inflicted violence (on denunciations that were famous in Moscow during the siege). He was accused of stealing the monastic treasury, and he accused his successor of seizing his property. Prince Volkonsky from Moscow was sent for the proceedings, Mescherinov became the first exile of the Solovki imprisonment after the complete pogrom of the Solovetsky monastery. In 1680, Meshcherinov was released [1] .

In 1688, Meshcherinov was in the retinue of Queen Natalia Kirillovna, who was going to Savvin Monastery [2] .

In 1671–1673 he was a voivod in Kozmodemyansk .

In 1674-1675 he was a voivod in Sumy prison .
