From the coast of Pravda , on which the Russian Antarctic station Mirny is located , to the island of Zykov, about 2 kilometers. And in the Antarctic winter from coast to island you can walk on ice on foot. In summer, ice carries to the South Ocean , and then the island can only be reached by boat .

Island Features
The island is a rock and has virtually no soil.
On the islands of the Haswell archipelago , including the island of Zykova, there are 12-15 species of animals . Haswell archipelago is known for the fact that Adelie penguins and several species of flying birds nest on the islands. A large colony of emperor penguins lives in the Haswell archipelago in winter.
History
First discovered and displayed on maps by the Australian Antarctic Expedition of 1911 - 1914 under the leadership of D. Mawson . Then a closely located group of rocky islands was named the Haswell archipelago .
It was examined in detail and renamed the 2nd Soviet Antarctic Expedition (SAE) of 1956 .
The island was named after Yevgeny Zykov , a student and navigator who died in Antarctica on February 3, 1957 during the 2nd SAE three kilometers west of Mirny, when the edge of the ice barrier collapsed and the ice crashed onto the deck of the Ob icebreaker [ 1] .
