Youth

Kenny attended St Bede's Secondary Modern, which is now part of Sacred Heart Catholic College. He attended a junior seminary in Stillington near York with an Italian missionary bias - Verona Fathers. After graduation, he worked in a bakery and in the advertising department of the Journal of Commerce and Shipping Telegraph. Having revealed the nature of the comedian and talent in broadcasting, he decided to try himself in these genres, taking the stage name from the movie star Edward Everett Horton , a childhood hero.

Radio Career

His career on the radio began in 1962 when he sent a film to the BBC . There he was interviewed and offered a job as a DJ at the Light Program radio station (later BBC Radio 2). However, he chose to work on pirate radio, where he began his career as a DJ on Radio London.

With DJ Dave Cash, they created one of the most popular pirate radio programs - Kenny & Cash Show . His charm and style attracted his attention, but in 1965 he was fired for several of his comments on the subject of religion. Like other pirate radio stations, Radio London existed through the performances of the evangelists, and Everett's dismissive remarks about the Tomorrow World program (Tomorrow’s World) led to the creators of the radio station threatening to terminate the lucrative contract.

Everett returned six months later, having managed to make his show on Radio Luxembourg before that. A year later, he began working on the new BBC radio station, Radio 1, which broadcast pop music, after he reviewed the album “ The Beatles Club of the Lonely Hearts of Sergeant Pepper ” and interviewed the members of the group. Everett became friends with the group and went with them on a tour of the United States, sending reports to Radio London. He also produced their Christmas albums.

On Radio 1, he continued to develop his unique style, using funny voices, surrealistic images, multi-track jingles, which he made himself.

It is traditionally believed that it was Everett who "had a hand" in the promotion of Queen's single Bohemian Rhapsody in 1975, having played this song on Radio Radio 14 times.

Television career

In addition to television, his first appearance was in the 1965 film Dateline Diamonds, in which a plot was plotted around the Galaxy ship. Kenny plays in a short episode of himself. In 1970 he made three episodes for London Weekend Television (LWT), called he Kenny Everett Explosion, Making Whoopee and Ev, and also participated (along with talents like Willy Rushton and John Wells) on the BBC series 1972 - Up Sunday. In 1973, Everett voiced the voice of the cat 'Charlie' in the animated series Charlie Says on public television.
