UNCAF Club Cup 1996 - the 15th tournament draw, which took place after a twelve-year break, the 1st draw called the Tournament of the Grandees of Central America . A distinctive feature of the tournament was the punched penalty shootout after each drawn match. The planned number of participants was eight clubs from four countries. The tournament was played from April 10 to June 11, 1996 . The trophy was first conquered by the Alahuelense Costa Rican Club.

- Saprissa is a semi-finalist in the Costa Rican Championship 1995/1996 season.

Changes to the tournament
Initially, the tournament was planned to be attended by eight clubs divided into two groups, the winners of the groups were to play in the final:

- FAS
- Saprissa
- Olympia
However, the Honduran clubs Mothagua and Olympia refused to participate in the tournament, the groups were reduced to three teams each. The day before the tournament, the Salvadoran club Atletico Marte refused to participate in the tournament, the remaining four [1] clubs were merged into one group.
