Ukraine men's basketball team

The Ukrainian national basketball team is a national basketball team representing Ukraine on the international basketball arena. The governing body of the team is the Basketball Federation of Ukraine.

World Championships

2014 World Championships

Having taken the 6th place at the European Championships in 2013, the Ukrainian national team for the first time in its history won the right to play at the World Championships. In the final tournament, the team got into group "C" along with teams from the USA , Turkey , the Dominican Republic , New Zealand and Finland . The Ukrainian national team successfully started in the tournament, having beaten the team of the Dominican Republic in their first match - 72:62. However, in the second round was followed by defeat from the Finnish national team - 76:81. In the third match the world vice-champion of 2010 was replayed, the national team of Turkey - 64:58. But after that there were two defeats in a row, first from the national team of New Zealand - 61:73, and in the last fifth match of the current world champion, the US team - 71:95. As a result, gaining an equal number of points with the teams of the Dominican Republic and New Zealand (7 each), the Ukrainian team for additional indicators could not get into the play-off stage of the tournament.

Eurobasket 1993

At the 1993 European Basketball Championship. Ukraine could not play because it did not qualify.

Eurobasket 1995

At the 1995 European Basketball Championship. Ukraine also did not smile luck to qualify.

Eurobasket 1997

For the first time to win a ticket and go to the European Basketball Championship. The men's team of Ukraine was able only in 1997.

DV preliminary round Ukraine got into group D with such strong teams as the Spanish national team, the Croatian national team, and the German national team.

The first match was held on June 25, 1997. For the Ukrainian team, it ended in failure. Ukraine lost to Spain with a score of 54 - 82.

The second match against Germany was held on June 26th. It also ended in failure for the Ukrainian team. She lost with a score of 60 - 81.

In the third and final match of the preliminary round (which was held on June 27), the Ukrainian team for the first time during its participation in the Championship managed to defeat its opponent, beating the Croatian team with a score of 95 - 88. However, this victory could not advance Ukraine into the next group stage, thereby The men's team of Ukraine dropped out of Eurobasket and took 13th place, which until 2013 was its highest achievement.

Eurobasket 1999

At the Eurobasket in 1999, Ukraine could not speak because it did not pass the qualifying tournament.

Eurobasket 2001

In the qualifying tournament for the 2001 European Basketball Championship, Ukraine was lucky, and she was able, once again qualified, to get to the Eurobasket.

This time in the preliminary round, Ukraine got into group A to such teams as the French team, the Lithuanian team and the Israel team.

The first match was held, on August 31 against Ukraine, Ukraine suffered a defeat of 60 - 82.

The second match was held on September 1 against the French team, in which Ukraine was able to win, defeating a strong enemy team by 3 points 89 - 86

The third match took place, on September 2, Ukraine suffered a defeat against the Israeli national team, losing, with the score of 65 - 88, the Ukrainian men's team failed again, moving into a new group stage at the 2001 Eurobasket. Ukraine got 14th place.

Eurobasket 2003

At Eurobasket 2003, Ukraine was placed in Group D for the Turkish national team of Greece and for the Croatian team.

The first match took place, on September 5, Ukraine lost to Turkey with a score of 69 - 77.

The second match was held on September 6 against the national team of Croatia. Ukraine's national team again suffers 71 - 93.

The final third match of the group stage against the Greek national team also ended, unsuccessfully for the Ukrainian national team, she lost 73 - 79 Ukraine dropped out again, having received 14th place.

Eurobasket 2005

At the European Basketball Championship 2005, Ukraine fell into Group A against the Russian national team, the Italian national team and the German national team. Eurobasket 2013

The men's team of Ukraine, led by professional American coach Mike Fratello, brilliantly went through the qualifying tournament , taking second place in his qualifying group (losing only 2 matches out of 8), and went to the final tournament of the European Basketball Championship 2013, which was held in Slovenia. According to the results of the draw, the Ukrainian team got into group “A” together with the teams of Belgium, Israel, Germany, France and the UK.

From the very first matches of the final tournament, a strong and confident team appeared before the fans. The first match took place on September 4, in which Ukraine in a hard battle snatched victory from Belgium 58–57.

In the second match, Ukraine won a more confident victory, defeating the Israeli national team with a score of 74–67.

The third match was held on September 6 against the German national team. The chances of defeating a strong opponent were slim, but the Ukrainian team managed to sensationally defeat the German team, ending the match with a winning score of 88–83 for Ukraine

The fourth match took place on September 8 against the French team. Ukraine for the first time in its participation at Eurobasket 2013 was defeated 71–77.

The fifth match was the last match of the preliminary round. He passed September 9th. In it, Ukraine easily defeated the UK team 87–68, and for the first time in its history it was able to get into the next round.

In the main round, Ukraine started with one victory in the reserve and got into group E along with the teams of Serbia, Lithuania, Latvia, France and Belgium.

The first match took place on September 11 and ended for the Ukrainian team with a defeat from the Latvian team 51:85

The second match was held on September 13 for the Ukrainian team. He was quite difficult, but she managed to defeat Serbia 82-75.

The third and final match of the main round took place. September 15, Ukraine played with the Lithuanian team. The Ukrainian team failed to win a victory over the Lithuanian team, having suffered a defeat 63–70. However, since its main competitor for the playoffs - the Latvian national team - lost to the Belgian national team, Ukraine won the quarter-final. Thus, the Ukrainian team for the first time in its history entered not only the main round, but also reached the quarterfinal.

In the quarterfinals of the Ukrainian team, the already known opponent of the Croatian team (the only team that Ukraine lost in the qualifying tournament) went to the match ended in a defeat for Ukraine 72 - 84. Not reaching the semifinals, the Ukrainian team took part in tournaments for 5-7 places. She got a strong opponent - the Italian team, but the Ukrainian team confidently defeated her opponent with a score of 66 –58.

The last match for the Ukrainian team at Eurobasket 2013 was the match for the 5th place against the hosts of the tournament - the Slovenian team, which Ukraine lost with a score of 66–69. Thus, the Ukrainian team took the 6th place, entering the 7 best teams of the Eurobasket 2013.

Eurobasket 2015

After a successful performance at Eurobasket 2013, Ukraine automatically qualified for the next Eurobasket. This championship was the first for the national team of Ukraine, after the appointment of Yevgeny Murzin to the position of head coach of the national team.

In the preliminary round, she played in Group D along with teams from Lithuania, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Belgium, and Estonia. The results of the matches are shown in the tables below:

Eurobasket 2017

The national team of Ukraine took the 2nd place in group E qualification and reached the final stage of the European Championship.

At the European Championships, Ukraine took the 4th place in Group B and made it to the 1/8 final , where it lost 55:79 to the Slovenian team.
