Biography
Baba Ji was born in 1838 in the village of Ghoman , in the district of Gurdaspur, Punjab, in a family of Sikh peasants. Baba Ji showed very early spiritual development from a very young age. When he visited the Baba Nam Dev Chapel with his parents, he, unlike other children of his age, sat calmly and attentively, and even at the age of three could repeat many of those verses that he had heard in spiritual discussions. Village people marveled at its wonderful development. Soon he was given the nickname "Bal-Sadhu" (a child-saint), and his locals urged his parents to give him the opportunity to get an education. When Baba Ji was five years old, he was given into the care of Bhai Khem Das, a Vedantic scholar. Soon, Baba Ji mastered the Gurmukhi script and read the five major Sikh scriptures, including Jap Ji , Sukhmani Sahib and Raho Ras . Over the next six months, he had memorized key passages from these scriptures, and by the age of seven he had become magnificent pathas . The following year was spent studying Dasam Grant . At the age of eight, he returned home to help his parents with the housework, but in the evening he returned to his teacher anyway. At the age of nine, he began to study Hindi and Hindu texts. Baba Ji's father decided to remove his son from religious influence and at the age of eleven sent him with his herd to the house of one of his sisters, Bibi Tabo, who lived in the village of Sadhyal . In the village of Sadhyala, Baba Ji met a yogi who decided to take him as a student. Soon, his father decided to take Baba Ji back home. In 1852, his father passed away. The household fell on the shoulders of Baba Ji as the oldest man in the family. Soon, a sadhu from the Udashi sect arrived in the village, meeting with Baba Ji, he assured that he could initiate him into the secret of Ghor Anhad , but warned that he would soon leave for Amritsar . Baba Ji decided to leave his family and go to Amritsar. In Amritsar, Baba Joo was ordained to Ghor Anhada and began his spiritual search. He soon decided to meet with Baba Gulab Das , but was not satisfied with the interpretation of the sadhu and went to Khazro , where he soon met with Baba Balaku Singh . Baba Balaka Singh was not able to fully satisfy the spiritual needs of Baba Ji and sent him to Chikker to a Sikh family man, from whom he soon received initiation. Soon, Baba Ji went home, but did not stay there for a long time, went to Punn Gal , where he met with Guru Swami Ji . Soon Baba Ji became a student of Swami Ji. In 1856, Baba Ji enlisted. During the service, there were rumors of his prophetic gift and cases of dematerialization were noticed. According to rumors, enemy snipers, seeing him in meditation, were afraid to shoot and even bowed before him in veneration. English officers honored him and called him "Mr. Bishop." Preached vegetarianism in his regiment. He subsequently received initiation from his teacher. In January 1869, in Jhansi, he was awarded the Naik ( Corporal ) rank medal. On the same day, three years later in Myanmar, he became Khavildar ( sergeant ), and during the stay of the 24th Sikh regiment in Multan , for three years from 1880, he received a second medal for faithful and commendable service.
