Agreement Terms

Under the terms of the treaty, France guaranteed pragmatic sanction and recognized the elector of Saxony Frederick Augustus II as the Polish king under the name Augustus III. For Stanislav Leshchinsky retained the royal title for life, he was also transferred to the Duchy of Lorraine and the county of Bar , which after his death were to go to France. The Duke of Lorraine, Franz Stefan , the son-in-law of Emperor Charles VI , received the Parma Duchy as part of Parma , the Piacenza and the Grand Duchy of Tuscany , the throne of which was vacant in connection with the suppression of the Medici dynasty, as compensation for Lorraine.

Austria refused to acquire the Kingdom of Sicily , acquired by her as a result of the Utrecht Peace Agreement and the London Treaty of 1720, which was transferred to the younger line of the Spanish Bourbons (without the right to unite with Spain under one scepter).

Sardinia received part of the Austrian Duchy of Austria ( Novara , Tortona ).

By acts of May 15 and November 23, 1736, Russia declared its agreement with the provisional peace treaty of 1735 and joined the Vienna peace treaty (more precisely, its 6th article, which formulated the agreement on the Polish question) by the act of May 21, 1739.

Results of the contract

The Vienna peace treaty became a military and diplomatic defeat for Austria, which, due to the unsuccessful Turkish war, was forced to consolidate the harsh conditions of the preliminary treaty with France in 1735, trying to mediate the peace with Porta . At the same time, the treaty was a major success for France, which not only managed to significantly weaken Austria’s position in Italy, but also completed, with the accession of Lorraine, reunification of its national territory. At the same time, the Vienna Peace Treaty was a reflection of the military and diplomatic successes of Russia, which defeated France in the Polish question.
