Biography

After the death of his cousin Philip VIII (1869-1926), the Duke of Orleans, an aspirant to the throne of France under the name of Philip VIII, the Duke de Guise became, at least for his Orleanist supporters, the nominal king of France as John III.

In 1899, Prince Jean of Orleans in Kingston-upon-Thames (England) married his cousin Isabella of Orleans ( 1878 - 1961 ). Isabella was the younger sister of the candidate for the throne of Philip VIII and the daughter of Louis Philippe, Count of Paris and Maria Isabella of Orleans.

They had four children:

  • Isabella ( 1900 - 1983 ), Princess of Orleans; first married in 1923 to Marie Herve Jean Bruno, Count d'Arcourt (1899-1930), then in 1934 to Pierre Murat (1900-1948), Prince Murat.
  • Francoise ( 1902 - 1953 ), Princess of Orleans; married in 1929 to Prince Christopher of Greece and Denmark (1888-1940), he was the son of King George I of Greece and Olga, Queen of Greece. They were the parents of Prince Michael of Greece and Denmark.
  • Anna ( 1906 - 1986 ), Princess of Orleans; married in 1927 to Ameadeo of Savoy (1898–1942), 3rd Duke of Aosta .
  • Henry ( 1908 - 1999 ), Count of Paris, Orleanist contender for the throne of France under the name of Henry VI.

Jean III died in Larache , Morocco , in 1940.
