Biography
Natalya Semenovna is the daughter of the life guards of a retired Fourier Semen Ivanovich Borschov (or Barschov, as they wrote then). In addition to Natalia, he and his wife, Ekaterina Alekseevna, had six more children, and the whole state of the family was 113 souls of serfs, moreover, laid down [1] . In 1764, Natalia was admitted to the Smolny Institute. In the institute, having a good voice, she took part in theatrical productions. A. A. Rzhevsky [2] spoke about the talent of Natalia:
Borschov, in the opera with Nelidova playing And she had the same talent, I am like praise for myself, And in the audience of the heart you lit singing; Though you role-disgusting imagined, But the more and more you showed art That tenderness of years and the floor knew how to translate And the disagreement that art subjugate. To all your viewers you are making fun Got praise, honor and glory. |
In 1776 , as one of the best students, Natalya graduated from the institute with the Big Gold Medal, the Empress's monogram and a pension of 250 rubles a year. Being intended for the award of the maid of honor to the court of Grand Duchess Natalia Alekseyevna , who died a few days before the first release of the Smolensk women, she was accepted to the court on June 14, 1776 and appointed to be together with her beloved friend of the Institute EI Nelidova Freyllin during the second wife of the crown prince Grand Duchess Maria Feodorovna.
In this official rank, Natalya accompanied the “Count and Countess of the Northern” in their journey to Europe in 1782 and, together with Catherine Nelidova, “had a step” in all official cases before Princess Saltykova [3] and Mrs. Benkendorf [4] , who accompanied the grand duke unofficially . Natalia Borshchova did not use, however, the special location of the Grand Duchess, who during the journey always had the presence of her maid of honor, who prevented her from staying in the company of Ms. Benkendorf. But Borshchov was valued at the “small courtyard” for her stage talent, where she often took part in performances that were arranged by the Grand Duchess.
In 1809, Natalia was appointed to be the hofmeister at the maid of honor, and after that was granted to the cavalier ladies of the Order of St. Catherine of the Lesser Cross [5] .
Judging by everything, N. S. Borshchova’s life was completely calm and happy. She lived longer than all her friends on the first and, as it turned out, the most famous issue of the Smolny Institute. Natalya Semyonovna died on October 31, 1843 and was buried at the Smolensk cemetery in St. Petersburg.
