Khazar University ( azerb. Xəzər Universiteti , English Khazar University ) is the first private higher educational institution in Azerbaijan and one of the first non-state universities in the post-Soviet space [1] .

Creation History and Accreditation
Khazar University was established on March 18, 1991 by order of No. 41 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan "in order to meet the country's urgent need for personnel that meet international standards, as well as the need for English-speaking specialists." A little earlier, on December 20, 1990, order No. 286 of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR was issued on the preparatory work for the creation of this higher educational institution [2] . The founder and chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees is Professor Hamlet Isahanli [3] [4] .
Over the years the university has existed, various journal and television surveys, surveys among students and specialists, studies conducted by non-governmental organizations, assessments of international commissions, and reviews of international companies have declared Khazar University one of the best higher educational institutions in Azerbaijan and wider regions such as the Caucasus and Central Asia , Middle East and Eastern Europe [5] [6] [7] .

General information
The university employs more than 200 scientists and teachers; among them about 40 doctors of sciences, about 100 candidates of sciences (PhD), recognized scientists, scientists and artists. Along with local teachers, foreign experts invited from universities in the USA , Europe and Asia work at the university [8] [9] .
The university has a wide material and technical base. There are publishing houses , printing houses , scientific and educational laboratories, newspapers and scientific journals. The fund of this modern library contains more than 200 thousand books in Azerbaijani, Russian, English, French, German, Persian, Turkish, Arabic, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Chinese and other languages, tens of thousands of paper and electronic scientific journals. According to experts, this is the most developed library in the country and the richest among private universities in Azerbaijan. See in particular [10] [11] .
The university has 7 computer centers and one computer for every four students. The main language of instruction is English. At the same time, students who are weakly proficient (or not fluent) in English can also enter Khazar University - they begin with intensive English language instruction. The best students get the opportunity to continue their education at universities in the USA , Canada , Western, Middle and Eastern Europe, the Far East [8] [9] .
Currently, more than 15% of students studying at Khazar University are foreigners [12] .

Dunya School
The Dunya school ( azerb. Dünya məktəbi ) at the Khazar University is one of the first private secondary schools in Azerbaijan, where preparatory classes for children from 3 to 5 years also function.
On January 16, 2009, the Dunya School at Khazar University received international status through accreditation of the İnternational Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) [14] . Classes in grades 10 and 11 are held in English based on the IBO program.
School graduates receive both an IBO diploma and a national certificate. Graduates with an İBO diploma as students are accepted by many, including leading, universities in the world without exams or after an interview.
