Sports career
In the World Cup, Andre Murer made his debut in 2004 , in December 2006, won his first victory at the World Cup stage in slalom. The second victory at the World Cup came to Andre only after more than 4 years on the slalom track in Zagreb.
He took part in the 2006 Olympics in Turin, where he stopped a step away from the medal, taking 4th place in the slalom (only 0.03 seconds behind the bronze medal).
At the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, he won bronze in slalom (having shown the absolute best time in the second attempt by the Swede by 0.05 seconds ahead of 2006’s fourth Olympic champion Benjamin Reich ), did not make it to the finish line in the giant slalom competition.
At the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Mührer showed the second result after the Austrian Mario Matta in the first slalom attempt . In the second attempt Murer failed to finish.
At the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, 35-year-old Murerer won gold in slalom . The main favorites of slalom Marcel Hirscher and Henrik Kristoffersen failed to finish, and Murerer, who showed the second result in the first attempt, confidently passed the track in the second (8th result) and showed the best time by 0.34 seconds for the Swiss Ramon Zenhauser . Murer became the second Swede in history to win Olympic gold in slalom after the famous Ingemar Stenmark in 1980.
During his career, he participated in eight world championships , the best result in personal disciplines - 4th place in the slalom at the 2013 World Championships in Schladming . In 2013, 2015 and 2017 he won three medals in the team championship at the world championships.
