The building of the museum of local lore is one of the central buildings of the city of Herdecke , Germany and, as a historical monument , is protected by law. One of the attractions of the pilgrimage route along the path of St. James in Westphalia .

Content
History
At the beginning of the 19th century, another residential building stood on the site of this building, in which from 1791 to 1811 the last abbess of the free-secular pin lived [ specify ] . In 1812, the pin was eliminated and after a short time the building was bought by the famous local merchant Hook (H. Hueck). Having inspected the building, he decides to build a new one in its place, but leave as a foundation a strong vaulted basement from the local block Ruhr sandstone . In 1815, the building was decorated with the city square, which retained in its name a memory of the church past - Stiftplaz Square.
The new building was called by the townspeople " Villa Native Room" (Ville Heimatstube). This unofficial name has survived to the present day.
The internal structure of the building is symmetrical with respect to the central stairwell. Visually, this is emphasized by a triangular pediment , in which a circular hole is placed through which light falls on the stairs. To insulate the building, the exterior is covered with plates of black clay slate .
Usage
Currently, this historic building houses the city archive.
Since 1993, a permanent exhibition-exposition of the history of the region has been placed here.
On October 25, 2008, a major fire occurred in the city, as a result of which the building of the evangelical society burned down, so the remains of the library that was in it were transferred to the building of the museum of local lore. [one]
In 2013, the museum was closed in connection with the construction of a new building.
