Life and Service

Born in 1762 in the village of Starocherkassk Region, Donskoy Troops , son of a military judge, Lieutenant General Dmitry Martynovich Martynov . January 1, 1770 was enlisted in the Cossack regiment of his father, May 14, 1772 he was promoted to Yesaul .

In 1787-1792 he took part in the campaign with the Turks as the commander of the Cossack regiment of his name, took part in the assault on Ochakov and was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 4th degree with a bow, he also received the rank of colonel on September 26, 1789.

Continuing his service in the Don Cossack Army, Martynov was awarded the Order of St. 26 November 1795 . George 4th degree (No. 1209 according to the list of cavalier Grigorovich - Stepanov), was promoted to foreman in 1796, received the rank of major general on January 27, 1797, and was retired from October 30, 1799 to 1805 (according to other sources, he returned on service January 15, 1807). A participant in the suppression of the Esaulovsky riot on the Don in 1792-1794. On December 7, 1805, Martynov returned to service and was granted the rank of lieutenant general (1798 was mistakenly indicated in the Dictionary of Russian Generals). In 1807 he was appointed ataman of the Don Cossack Army and held this position until the end of 1808, when he was granted the Order of St. Anna of the 1st degree.

At the initial stage of the Patriotic War of 1812, Martynov was on the Don and was preparing reinforcements for the army operating against the French. Upon arrival at the Tarutino camp at the head of the newly formed Don Cossack regiments, Martynov became subordinate to the cavalry general M. I. Platov and commanded an avant-garde detachment in his corps. He took part in many battles with the French, including at Maloyaroslavets , Vyazma , Krasny , Borisov. In the battle of Molodechno, he received a bullet wound in his right shoulder and was forced to leave the army.

March 25, 1813 Martynov was awarded the Order of St. George 3rd degree (No. 282 according to the list of gentlemen )

 In retribution of the excellent courage and courage shown in the battles in the pursuit of the French troops from Maloyaroslavets to the Neman. 

Also for differences against the French, Martynov was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir 2nd degree, diamond signs to the Order of St. Anna of the 1st degree and a golden saber with the inscription "For courage . "

He died on January 15, 1815, was excluded from the lists on June 17.
