
Torbay [1] ( English Torbay ) - a unitary unit in the southeast of the ceremonial county of Devon . The main and largest city is Torquay (population - 64 thousand people). The Torbay region is a popular holiday destination, it is called the English Riviera.

History
It was formed on April 1, 1998 by converting the non-metropolitan county of Devon into a unitary unit of the Torbay region ( en: Local Government Commission for England (1992) ).
Geography
It covers an area of 63 km², in the east it is washed by the English Channel , in the south, west and north it borders on the non-metropolitan county of Devon .
Population
129 706 people live on the territory of the unitary unit, with an average population density of 2,063 people / km² (2001) [2] .
Policy
The unitary council consists of 36 deputies elected in 15 constituencies. As a result of recent elections, conservatives take 22 seats on the council [3] .
Sports
On the territory of the unitary unit of Torbay, in the city of Torquay , the professional football club Torquay United is based , playing in the 2012/2013 season in the Second Football League . Torquay United takes on rivals at the Plainmore Stadium (6,000 spectators).
