Biography
Born in the family of a Methodist Church missionary.
He graduated from the Law School of St. John's College (Cambridge).
Since 1940 - in the colonial administration of Uganda.
In the 1960s He worked in the Ministry of Commonwealth Affairs, then in the UN apparatus.
In 1969 - Commissioner in Anguilla, after the British invasion, caused by the intention of local authorities to withdraw from the colonial union of St. Christopher-Nevis-Anguilla.
In the years 1972-1976. - Governor of Belize (until 1973 - British Honduras). In this post, he managed to prevent a military conflict with Guatemala, which had territorial claims against Belize.
In the years 1976-1980. - Consul General in South Africa, at the same time in 1979 - High Commissioner of the United Kingdom in Uganda. He was the founder of the Uganda Olympic Committee.
In 1981-1983 - Governor of Bermuda. However, he did not manage to establish relations with the local bureaucracy, which sent a complaint to the Ministry for Commonwealth Affairs about the excessive expenses of the governor.
In 1983, Posnett resigned, although it was later proved the absence of any abuse.
