In the late 50s and early 60s, the Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University was a large faculty that produced a wide range of physicists. In those years, not only science developed, but also student self-government, which led to the emergence of student social initiatives. This led to the birth of the tradition of the comic "Days of Archimedes" (currently in Physics, this is the "Day of Physics") [1] [2] . For the first time the holiday was established in 1959 at the X Komsomol Conference of the Physics Department, which read: “Establish the holiday the Day of Physics. Consider the Day of Physics the birthday of Archimedes. Decide that Archimedes was born on May 7, 287 BC. er ". The authors of the idea were the cultural scientists of the faculty Natalya Kabaeva and Marina Danilycheva (Artyomenko). The script of the first holiday and the libretto of the opera of the same name “Archimedes” were written by second-year students Valery Kaner and Valery Milyaev . The first festival and the premiere of the opera took place on May 7, 1960.

Large-scale celebrations were held until 1965, causing unheard of at the time excitement and attention. In 1961, two Nobel laureates were present at the celebration: Niels Bohr and Lev Landau . In 1963, German Titov visited the festival. Under pressure from the party committee of the faculty, Physics Day was not first held in 1965, and then completely canceled for ten years, starting in 1969 [2] . In 1978, the “Day of Physics” at the Physics Department of Moscow State University was revived. On the first holiday after the break, a performance was shown on the steps of the faculty, the heroes of which were Galileo and Absolute Zero . The initiator of the revival of the holiday and the authors of the script was a group of students, which included the future writer Yuri Nechiporenko . Since then, celebrations have been held almost every year. Events began to be held regularly in many other universities of the Soviet Union [1] .

At present, the tradition of the Day of Physics is an invariable attribute of the physics departments of universities and unites universities in different cities and countries. Students not only organize a holiday at their university, but also attend similar events at other universities. For this reason, the Days of Physics in the largest universities of Russia and the near abroad are held at different times during April-May each year.
