Pre- celebration ( pre-celebration [1] , Greek Προεόρτια ) - a day or several days before the twelfth holidays and before the holiday Origin of the honest trees of the Life-giving Cross in the liturgical calendar of the Orthodox Church .
According to the Typicon, these days the service includes prayers dedicated to the upcoming holiday. Easter , unlike the twelfth holidays , does not have a certain number of days of the Pre-Holiday. The number of days of Holidays at the holidays is different. Most of all - 5 days at Christmas and Epiphany - 4 days, all other twelve holy days and the holiday Origin of the honest trees of the Life-giving Cross Pre-Feast - 1 day. Three of the twelve feasts: the Lord’s Entrance to Jerusalem , the Day of the Holy Trinity and the Ascension of the Lord do not have Pre-Feast, but the Ascension holiday nevertheless has prayers of the Pre-Feast, this is the canon for Matins . Prayers of the Pre-Celebration are placed in Minea for enduring holidays and in Triode for the feast of the Ascension of the Lord . Prayers of the Celebration are clergy for Vespers ; canon and stichera on matins . The Nativity of Christ and the Baptism of the Lord every day still have a canon on the occasion of Pre-Holiness. In the days of the Pre-Holidays, the two-part service is most often the prayers of the Pre-Feast and prayers celebrated on this day by the saint. For example, February 1 - the Celebration of the Meeting and the memory of the martyr Tryphon . The service can be three-part, if there are two saints, for example, January 3 - the Pre-Celebration of the Epiphany , and the memory of the holy prophet of God Malachi and the holy martyr Gordia .
The Mother of God celebrations of the Nativity of Christ are found in worship long before the celebration of December 20 ( January 2 ), for example:
- in the verses "in praise" on November 30 ( December 13 ): "Receive, Bethlehem, ..",
- in stichera on “Lord's cries ...” December 6 (19) : “Den, beautify, ..”
