Adolf Yakovlevich Shapiro (born July 4, 1939 , Kharkov , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Soviet, Latvian [1] and Russian director , theater teacher, playwright, professor. People's Artist of the Latvian SSR ( 1986 ), Honored Artist of the Russian Federation ( 2019 ). Laureate of the State Prize of the Latvian SSR.

Biography
Adolf Shapiro graduated from the directing department of the Kharkov Theater Institute , then continued his studies in Moscow at the M. Knebel Higher Director's Laboratory. [2]
From 1962 to 1992 he worked in Latvia, where he headed the State Theater for Young Spectators of the Latvian SSR named after the Lenin Komsomol (Youth Theater). [3] Among the most significant works of A. Shapiro: “ Ivanov ” and “Leshiy” by A. Chekhov , “City at the Dawn” by A. Arbuzov , “Forest” by A. Ostrovsky , “The Golden Horse” by J. Rainis, “Per Gunt” G. Ibsen, “The Prince of Homburg” by G. Kleist , “ Fear and Despair in the Third Empire ” by B. Brecht , “And Tomorrow Was the War” by B. Vasiliev , “Democracy” by I. Brodsky and other performances.
This theater, which has two buildings and two troupes (Russian and Latvian), had a unique organizational structure and was widely known both in the country and abroad. He was a graduate of numerous international festivals, specially for him, plays were written by major Russian playwrights. [3]
In Rome at the European Festival "Theater on the Screen" received the Grand Prix and the Gold Medal for "The Invention of the Waltz" by V. Nabokov .
Adolf Shapiro taught at the Riga Conservatory, where he graduated from three acting courses and one directing.
In 1990, he was elected World President of the International Association of Theaters for Children and Youth (ASSITEZH) , since 1994 he has been President of the Russian Center for ASSITEZH. [four]
Since 1993, Adolf Shapiro has been working as an independent director and theater educator.
He taught and taught master classes in (in):

He works a lot in Estonia. [4] In 2003, he was elected Honorary Doctor of the Performing Arts Department of the Tallinn Theater Academy and Viljandi College of Art.
In 2007 he was appointed head of art projects of the Theater of Young Spectators. A. A. Bryantsev .
In 2011, he was elected Honorary Doctor of the Shanghai Theater Academy.
He is the author of plays in Russia and abroad and the books "Antr-Act", "How the Curtain Closed" (Prize of the magazine "Friendship of Peoples" for the best publication of the year).
In connection with the 70th anniversary, he received a congratulation from the President of Russia. [5]
