General information
Until the end of the Caucasian War, the princely family of Marshan owned lands located in the mountain valleys of many rivers of Greater and Lesser Abkhazia , ( Kodora , Mzymty ), as well as semi-independent rulers of Tsebeldy (the historical region of Abkhazia Dal-Tsabal ), since in 1837 they recognized vassal dependence from the rulers of Abkhazia.

The capital of the princely possessions was the village of Merheul . Separate branches of the genus also had their residences. One of them is in the village of Dal ( late Lata ), where the ruins of a 2-storey palace and gravestones on the grave of Prince Batal Marshan (d. 1859 ) are preserved.
