Edward Teodorovich Vinokurov ( October 20, 1942 , Bayzhansay , Chimkent Oblast , Kazakh SSR , USSR - February 10, 2010 , St. Petersburg , Russia ) - Soviet swordsman of Jewish origin, two-time Olympic champion and multiple world champion, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1968 ).

Biography

Born into the family of Theodore Lazarevich Vinokurov (1912–2002) and Tamara Romanovna Malinovskaya (1919–1996). He began to practice fencing in 1956. He played for SKA (Leningrad). He was a member of the USSR national team in 1966-1980.

Champion of the Olympic Games 1968, 1976, silver medalist of the Olympic Games 1972 in the team championship in saber fencing. World champion 1967, 1969-1971, 1974, 1975, silver medalist of world championships 1966 and 1973 in the team championship. Winner of the European Cup 1967-1971 in the team. USSR Champion 1966 in personal and team competitions. Winner of the USSR Cup 1965, 1967, 1972.

He graduated from the Higher School of Military Coaches of the Red Banner Faculty of Physical Education and Sports at the State twice Ordenonous Institute of Physical Culture named after PF Lesgaft with a degree in fencing (August 24, 1966) - a trainer in sports. He graduated from the Military twice the Red Banner Institute of Physical Culture with a degree in team physical education and sports (06/21/1985) - an officer with a higher military special education in physical culture and sports. Judge of the international category (1967). Member of the CPSU since 1978. Honored trainer of the RSFSR (09/18/1987).

In 2004 he was introduced to the Hall of Fencing Glory of Russia. In 2007, he was introduced to the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame [2] .

He was buried at the Theological Cemetery of St. Petersburg.
