Fruitorianism (from Latin fructus - fruit, English fruitarianism from English fruit - fruit, also: fruit-eating, fruit - eating , frutarianism or frutorianism ) - eating plant fruits , mainly raw, both sweet juicy fruits and berries , and fruit vegetables, without adding nuts , legumes, grains and seeds [1] . Fructorians eat only food for which plants do not need to be destroyed. Fructorians are usually considered people in whose diet raw fruits account for at least 75% (3/4). Ideally, only the fruits of plants are used. [2] [3]

Practice
In fruit-eating practice, fruits are not processed in any way before consumption (they are only peeled), nothing is added to them and rarely mixed. Food additives, spices and flavor enhancers are not used. If nuts are eaten, then in small quantities, not often and only young and fresh, retaining moisture. There are more and more fruit-eaters that exclude them altogether. Dried fruits, if consumed, are only dried in air at low temperature.
Typically, Fructorians prefer to eat as many environmentally friendly fruits as possible, grown without chemical treatment, and preferably in their region of residence.
Many people consider themselves Fructoreans if in their diet fruits do not constitute the main part all the time, if their share in the diet fluctuates. Some vary the proportion of fruits depending on the season (for example, 100% in the summer and autumn, that is, in fertile periods, and less in the months when the fruit is less available or inferior in freshness and quality), as well as depending on living conditions ( air temperature, climate, cultural environment, etc.).
Many vegetables are fruits (like tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers ), so they are suitable for Frutorians, and others are vital parts of plants: roots (for example, carrots ), leaves ( green onions ), so they are avoided. [four]
Other examples of fruits : melons , strawberries , blueberries , raspberries , walnuts , buckwheat , legumes, currants , apricots , avocados , figs , bananas and many others.
Varieties
Many Fructorians eat only raw, juicy, ripe fruit, believing that such food is the only necessary and sufficient, but there are also variations of fruit eating based on personal preferences, considerations of usefulness and ethics . You can be a fructorian and not a complete raw foodist . Many Fructorians regularly eat nuts , and some completely refuse them. Some drink a lot of freshly squeezed juice .
There is also a type of fructorianism in which only fruits that have fallen to the ground in a natural way, that is, after full ripening, are consumed.
One of the extended versions of fruit-eating is the diet known as 80/10/10 or 811 (80% carbohydrates, 10% protein, 10% fat - by energy value). In it, in addition to fruits, it is recommended to eat some green vegetables. [5] [6] [7]
History
There are certain Fructorians who practiced fruit eating at some time in different times (for example, Steve Jobs [8] , as well as Fructorian groups and movements representing different variants of Fructorianism (practices of the moral principle of Ahims , Zen - macrobiotic ), natural hygienists [ 9] .
Justification
Ethical
The main idea is a respectful coexistence with all living things, achieving optimal health when harmless without need. [10] Respect is practiced not only for animals, but also for plants. Fruitorianism is veganism with an expanded focus. Many Fructorians take care of both wildlife in general ( ecosystems ) and individual representatives of flora and fauna, and also try to minimize the consumption of things made from plant materials (e.g. wood), in addition to avoiding objects made from animal remains (ethical veganism ).
Nutritional
Fruits are recommended for daily use by leading nutritionists of the world. Good nutrition is impossible without the necessary quantity and assortment of fresh or processed fruits, berries and vegetables [11] .
Evolutionary
Fructorians believe that humans are fertile based on a comparative analysis of the digestive system of various mammals.
The number and structure of teeth, the length and structure of the digestive tract, the location of the eyes, the nature of the nails, the function of the skin, the composition of saliva, the relative size of the liver, the number and location of the mammary glands, the position and structure of the genital organs, the structure of the placenta and many other factors - all this indicates volume, in their opinion, that by its constitution, man is a fertile creature. [12] [13] However, millions of years of the history of the formation of man as an omnivorous being and existing traditions of nutrition refute this assumption [14] . In addition, cooking also played a decisive role in the development of the human species [15] .
Eating fruits is considered a natural behavior in the ecosystem for many higher primates, since fruits are “produced” by the plant most attractive to be eaten by certain animal species. Due to this, plants provide their seeds with a higher probability of germination. The seeds of many plants after eating the fruit pass, without losing germination, through the intestines of birds and mammals after eating the fruit. (see Distribution using animals ). Seeds enclosed in juicy fruits are spread by animals eating these fruits. The pulp in the stomach and intestines is digested, and the seeds protected by a dense skin pass undigested and are thrown out in a new place along with droppings - the seeds are sown along with fertilizers. [16]
The significance of the fruit for the plant is the protection and distribution of seeds. Before ripening, the top layer protects them from drying out, mechanical damage and eating (during this period, it usually accumulates toxic, acidic or astringent substances that disappear when the fruit ripens) [17] .
Environmental
- restoration of green spaces;
- counteracting soil erosion and landslides;
- multilateral improvement of the microclimate (stabilization of temperatures, humidity, improvement of air quality);
- avoidance of environmental pollution by feces and gases of farm animals;
- non-toxic waste, compost;
Economic
- saving on production costs (energy and labor), packaging materials, kitchen equipment, etc .;
- decentralization of agriculture;
- reduced risk of plantation loss (for example, resistance to drought);
- trees naturally create building material, in addition to wood, for alternative or traditional architectural buildings;
- fruits - an easily reproducible type of food, possibly a huge variety and breeding of new varieties;
Aesthetic
- Fructorians enjoy living surrounded by gardens rather than monoculture fields or livestock farms;
- flowering of fruit trees is very beautiful;
- fruits make us more attractive; [eighteen]
Others
including those not scientifically confirmed :
- disease prevention; [19]
- shaping a slender body;
- preservation of vision; [twenty]
- exemption from food addiction;
- avoidance of mental problems; [21]
- fruits are good for brain activity; [22]
- freeing up time with minimal cooking;
- people who have their own garden are more independent economically.
Criticism
- Eating organic fruits can be expensive or inaccessible in different regions. For example, imported ripe fruits in winter can be very expensive compared to regular food on store shelves.
- a restriction in food choices can adversely affect an individual’s social connections.
Nutritional Failure
In Germany, from 1996 to 1998, under the leadership of Klaus Leitzmann of the University of Giessen (Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen), a large study of raw foodists was conducted. During it, it was revealed that a third of the examined women under the age of 45 years had amenorrhea , 45% of all the men examined and iron deficiency anemia were found in 15% of the women, moreover, the more they had the raw food experience. In the blood of all the examined, a deficiency of calcium , iron , magnesium , iodine , zinc , vitamins E , D and B12 was detected, and the amount of magnesium, iron and vitamin E received from food was sufficient, which indicates that these substances were absorbed badly. The amount of beta-carotene supplied with food was greater than recommended, and vitamin A deficiency was found in the blood of the subjects, from which it can be concluded that beta-carotene was also poorly absorbed. In 57% of the examined, body weight was significantly lower than normal. Among the examined were raw raw food vegans (vegans), and raw food eaters, non-strict vegetarians and raw meat eaters. [23]
In a 1999 study of raw foodists, 30% of participants suffered from amenorrhea [24] .
Another study of the same year revealed that raw foodists have significantly more severe erosion of tooth enamel [25] .
A 1995 Finnish study found that raw foodists found low levels of omega-3 fatty acids [26] . Several studies (1982, 1995, 2000) showed that raw foodists have very low levels of B12 in their blood (it is known that participants in one of them subsequently began to take a vitamin supplement) [27] [28] [29] .
Human evolution
Richard Ranham of Harvard University claims that cooking plant foods could have caused an accelerated development of the human brain , which began 1.8 million years ago, since polysaccharides in starch-containing foods became more digestible and, as a result, allowed the body to absorb more calories. [30] However, there is an objection to this point: it is more likely that people began to cook on fire about 200-300 thousand years ago. In this case, the “culinary revolution” helps to explain not the first, but the second period of rapid brain growth and reduction of teeth - the one that was associated with the formation of sapiens and Neanderthals . As for the first period associated with the emergence of early archanthropes , an increase in the proportion of meat in the diet is probably sufficient to explain it. A consistent transition to more and more easily digestible food not only reduced the energy costs of chewing and digestion, but also created the prerequisites for reducing the volume of the digestive system, which also brought considerable savings.
