ISO / IEC JTC1

ISO / IEC Joint Technical Committee No. 1 or ISO / IEC Joint Technical Committee No. 1 (ISO / IEC JTC 1 ) [1] ( eng. ISO / IEC Joint Technical Committee 1, ISO / IEC JTC 1 ) - a division of the International Organization for Standardization ( International Organization for Standardization, ISO ) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which deals with all issues related to standards in the field of information technology .

Joint Technical Committee No. 1 (JTC 1) was created in 1987 by merging the Technical Committee 97 (Information Technology) of the International Organization for Standardization ( English ISO / TC 97 Information Technology ) and the Technical Committee 83 of the International Electrotechnical Commission ( English IEC / TC 83 ) with Subcommittee 47B of the International Electrotechnical Commission ( English IEC // SC 47B ), which joined later. The purpose of the association was to gather in one committee on information technology the activities of two related organizations.

The official goal of JTC 1 is to develop, support, promote and promote the development of IT standards necessary for the global market to coordinate the requirements of manufacturers and consumers, including:

  • design and development of IT systems and their development tools;
  • performance and quality of IT products and systems;
  • IT systems and information security ;
  • portability of application software ;
  • interoperability of IT products and systems;
  • unification of development tools and tools;
  • harmonization of IT vocabulary;
  • usability and ergonomic design of user interfaces .

Membership in JTC 1 is available to any delegates of countries ( English National Body ), as well as membership in any of the two parent organizations. A member can be any member (U-members, English P-members ) or observer (H-members, English O-members ), depending on the ability to vote on the proposed standards and other products. Organizations may nominate contact persons ( Liaison Members ), both members of ISO / IEC and external. Representatives of countries are not required to participate in all (or one) subcommittees. In some cases, subcommittees can be created to address new issues (subcommittee 37 was created on this principle in 2002 ), or disbanded if problems addressed by the subcommittee are no longer relevant.

The composition of JTC 1 significantly increased in August and September 2007 , in anticipation of a vote on a draft of the international standard Office Open XML .
