Yuutsu

Yuyutsu ( Skt. युयुत्सू “ thirsty to fight”) is the hero of the ancient Indian epic “ Mahabharata ”, the son of King Dhritarashtra from the maidservant and the half-brother of the Kauravas - the hundred sons of Dhritarashtra and Queen Gandhari . “When Gandhari was tormented by her ever-expanding abdomen, the mighty-armed Dhritarashtra was served by a girl from the Vaisya varna . In the same year, Dhritarashtra gave birth to the glorious and wise Yuyutsu from her. ” Yuyutsu is older than Duryodhana and the other sons of Gandhari. In the strife of the Pandavas and Kauravas, Yuyutsu always sided with the Pandavas, warning them of the wiles of their brothers. Yuyutsu was among those who condemned the fateful dice game that led to the Battle of Kurukshetra . Before the battle before the formation of the two armies, the king of the Pandavas Yudhisthira invited everyone to go to the side of the Pandavas. Yuyutsu immediately responded, and was honorably admitted to the Pandava camp by Yudhisthira and Krishna . At the same time, Yudhisthira prophetically declared that Yuutsu is the only one of the sons of Dhritarashtra who will survive the battle and continue the clan. Yuutsu fought to death with his brothers. just like the Pandavic brother Karna fought on the side of the Kauravas. This unique for the heroic epic castling is the subject of a chapter in the study of Karne. Yuyutsu was the eldest of the sons of Dhritarashtra. Perhaps it was the seniority of the wise and valiant son of the Vaisya that caused the hostility of the Kaurava princes and provoked him to the side of the Pandavas. Speaking of Yuyutsu at Kurukshetra, the legend, firstly, invariably emphasizes his prowess and power, and secondly, reminds that he is fighting on the side of the Pandavas.

When on the eighteenth day of the battle all the Kaurava supporters fled from the military camp to the capital in panic, Yuyutsu was tormented with repentance, feeling like a traitor: “All the Kauravas, who were led by Bhishma and Drona, were killed! Only I accidentally survived through the intervention of fate. " Yuutsu was generously rewarded for his loyalty to the Pandavas, holding senior positions in Hastinapura . When Yudhisthira talks about his intention to retire to the forest, he offers Dhrtarashtra: "May King Yuyutsu be your own son." Yet Yudhisthira rules for another twenty years. All this time, Yuutsu has been a confidant of Yudhisthira and an important official. If the Pandavas were absent, Yuutsu remained to guard the capital. After a long reign, King Yudhisthira turned his thoughts to leaving this world. Then, having ordered Yuyutsu to be brought in, Yudhishthira handed over all power to this Vaisya son: power should justly pass to the eldest of the heirs, which Yuyutsu was. Youutsu sided with the Pandavas, opposing his brothers, as did Karna, who fought against his Pandava brothers on the side of the Kauravas. At the same time, Yuutsu, who joined the noble and victorious heroes, unlike Karna, was rewarded for his choice.
