In high school, Clooney was struck by Bell's paralysis , a genetic disease transmitted to him from his father. About a year, half of his face was paralyzed. His left eye was closed, he could not eat and drink normally, and in connection with this earned the nickname "Frankenstein". “It was the worst time of my life,” Clooney told The Mirror magazine in 2003. “You know how cruel children can be. I was ridiculed and teased, but this test made me stronger ” [4] .
In the end, his parents moved to the city of Augusta, Kentucky , where Clooney attended Augusta High School. He claimed that he received only “4” and “5” at school [5] and was an enthusiastic baseball and basketball player . He thought about a legal career, but later abandoned this. He tried to play professional baseball with the Cincinnati Reds in 1977, but was not offered a permanent contract. He did not go through the first round of player selection [6] .
