Development

The development of Stormrise by The Creative Assembly Australia started in early 2005. [1] Stormrise was publicly announced and first demonstrated at E3 2008 in August 2008. [2]

Story

The game takes place on Earth, in the future, in a post-apocalyptic world. Thin tender shells of the life-giving atmosphere of the Earth burst like a soap bubble. Left without the usual protection, the planet has changed dramatically, as well as its inhabitants. A terrible catastrophe destroyed humanity in its original appearance and gave birth to two new races: Echelon and Sai. Two different civilizations could not get along, and their many contradictions resulted in a cruel uncompromising war. Stormrise is a new generation strategy that has no analogues. You have to lead a detachment of fighters and plunge into the thick of events, in the burning turmoil of epic battles.

Gameplay

Gameplay is based on the capture of strategic points. Each control point brings the energy needed to produce combat units and improve the points themselves. You can observe what is happening from a third party or from the point of view of any fighter. The game is completely three-dimensional, battles take place on city streets, towers of skyscrapers, roofs of buildings and in dungeons. Heights provide a tactical advantage.

The game “Stormrise” uses a game engine developed by The Creative Assembly , which uses PathEngine - a game AI library that implements a path finding algorithm for computer characters. The PC version of the game only supports DirectX 10 and DirectX 10.1. Support for DirectX 9 is missing, so the game requires Windows Vista and higher, as well as the corresponding video card. [3] “Stormrise” was one of the first games in which support for DirectX 10.1 was implemented. [4] [5]

The average score on Metacritic is 42 out of 100 (15 reviews) for PC [9] , 48 out of 100 (36 reviews) for Xbox 360 [10] and 51 out of 100 (28 reviews) for PlayStation 3 [11] .

Absolute Games, a Russian-language website, wrote a rather negative review of Stormrise, in which it criticized almost all the elements of the game and gave the game a 35% rating with a “bad” status. The detachment management and graphic interface were particularly negatively evaluated. Graphics, artificial intelligence and overall manufacturability of the game were also rated extremely low. Journalists spoke about the plot as follows: "... not every game offers so many stupid postapocalyptic stamps." Verdict: “Therefore, the Stormrise is not just another gray RTS clone, but a complete collapse. A powerful blow to the company's wallet and reputation. ” [6]

Cancel patch and dismiss employees

The development of the second patch for Stormrise was canceled on April 28, 2009, one month after the game was released [16] . The Creative Assembly stated that the cancellation of the development was due to financial costs, and said: The second patch, which was developed at The Creative Assembly Australia, will not fall into the hands of the players who bought Stormrise, because of the costs and risks associated with testing and certification new changes and features .

Negative press reviews for the game and low sales were identified as factors in this financial decision. [17]

After the cancellation of the patch, Ken Turner ( English Ken Turner ), creative director of the project Stormrise, was dismissed from the studio. [18]
