Description
Discovered in 1959 [3] . Viral particles have a diameter of 60-80 nm, simply arranged as there is no supercapsid, contain spikes forming proteins on the surface of VP4, VP7, in the core - VP1, 2, 3, 6, each of which plays an important role in the interaction with the cell. Breed in the cytoplasm. Reoviruses are unusually resistant. They retain their infectious properties at −20 ° C for about 2 years, 4 ° C for more than 70 days, and 37 ° C for 15–20 days. Resistant to ether, acids, formalin. Reoviruses infect young animals.
Classification
According to the International Committee on the Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) , as of March 2017, the family includes 15 genera combined into 2 subfamilies [4] :
- Subfamily Sedoreovirinae (from the Latin. Sedes - base) - with a smooth surface of the capsid [5]
- Genus Cardoreovirus (1 species)
- Genus Mimoreovirus - Mimoreoviruses [5] (1 species)
