Description

Discovered in 1959 [3] . Viral particles have a diameter of 60-80 nm, simply arranged as there is no supercapsid, contain spikes forming proteins on the surface of VP4, VP7, in the core - VP1, 2, 3, 6, each of which plays an important role in the interaction with the cell. Breed in the cytoplasm. Reoviruses are unusually resistant. They retain their infectious properties at βˆ’20 Β° C for about 2 years, 4 Β° C for more than 70 days, and 37 Β° C for 15–20 days. Resistant to ether, acids, formalin. Reoviruses infect young animals.

Classification

According to the International Committee on the Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) , as of March 2017, the family includes 15 genera combined into 2 subfamilies [4] :

  • Subfamily Sedoreovirinae (from the Latin. Sedes - base) - with a smooth surface of the capsid [5]
    • Genus Cardoreovirus (1 species)
    • Genus Mimoreovirus - Mimoreoviruses [5] (1 species)
    • Genus Orbivirus - Orbiviruses [2] (22 species)
    • Phytoreovirus genus (3 species)
    • Rotavirus genus - Rotavirus [2] (9 species)
    • Genus Seadornavirus (3 species)
  • Subfamily Spinareovirinae (from Lat. Spina - thorn) - with protrusions on the tops of the capsid [5]
    • Genus Aquareovirus - Akvareovirus [5] (7 species)
    • Genus Coltivirus - Coltiviruses [2] (2 species)
    • Genus Cypovirus - Cypovirus [5] (16 species)
    • Genus Dinovernavirus - Dinovornavirus [5] (1 species)
    • Genus Fijivirus (9 species)
    • Genus Idnoreovirus - Idnoreovirus [5] (5 species)
    • Genus Mycoreovirus (3 species)
    • Orthoreovirus genus - Orthoreoviruses [2] (6 species)
    • Genus Oryzavirus (2 species)
