Biography

Born in with. Lower Glebovka Kushchevsky district of the Krasnodar Territory. He graduated from the Faculty of History, VGPI ( 1966 ). In 1970-1973 studied at the graduate school of the IA Academy of Sciences of the USSR under the guidance of K. F. Smirnov. In 1974, he defended a dissertation on the topic “Late Sarmatian culture of the Lower Volga Region”, and in 1992 a doctoral dissertation, “Asian Sarmati: Chronological Problems and Its Historical Aspect”. One of the first organizers of the archaeological science of Volgograd. Created archaeological laboratories at VGPI (1975) and VolSU (1981). He was one of the first teachers accepted at VolSU. During the foundation years, he was temporarily vice-rector of the university for academic and scientific work (1981). With his direct participation in the VolSU, the Department of Archeology, Ancient and Medieval History, the Research Institute of Archeology of the Lower Volga Region and the Laboratory of Paleoanthropological Research were formed.

Scientific activity

Research interests: Sarmatians , Savromats .

Until the 1980s the researcher was engaged in the development of late Sarmatian subjects, and this stage of his scientific activity ended with the publication of a monograph on the archeology of the Lower Volga in the first centuries of our era. Since the second half of the 80s. XX century a whole series of researcher works devoted to the problem of correlation of Early Sarmatian and Middle Sarmatian cultures appears. Which resulted in the fundamental work “Asian Sarmati: problems of chronology and its historical aspect” (1990). This book was proposed by A.S. Skripkin as a scientific report presented as a dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences, which he defended in 1992 at the Academic Council of the IA RAS. Since the beginning of the 90s. the author is involved in the development of problems associated with the functioning of the Great Silk Road in ancient times, the historical ties of the steppe nomads of the Volga-Ural region with the tribes of Southern Siberia, Altai and China. In parallel with the above studies, A.S. Skripkin participated in a joint project with Italian and Russian scientists on the statistical processing of materials from funeral monuments of Asian Sarmatia.

A. S. Skripkin is the initiator and permanent editor of one of the major special publications on archeology of the Lower Volga Archaeological Bulletin.

A.S. Skripkin made a great contribution to the development of archaeological science in the Lower Volga region. On his initiative and direct participation, archaeological laboratories were created at the Volgograd Pedagogical Institute and Volgograd State University, a paleoanthropological laboratory was opened, the only one in the Lower Volga region so far. The Department of Archeology, Ancient and Medieval History (now the Department of Archeology and Foreign History) at the Volgograd State University was formed, at which its students work, at which postgraduate and doctoral programs in archeology were opened.

Thanks to the active participation of A.S. Skripkin, the Volgograd State University created the Scientific Research Institute of Archeology of the Lower Volga Region, which performed the function of coordinating archaeological research in the region.

A. S. Skripkin is the responsible editor of the Lower Volga Archaeological Bulletin founded by him, which received wide appreciation among the scientific community. Twelve issues of the Bulletin have already been published. He also participates in editorial boards of a number of periodicals on archeology and history in Volgograd and Saratov. At present, on his initiative, a creative team has been created that brings together scientists from the Volga cities, academic institutions of Moscow and St. Petersburg, to prepare and publish the “Archeology of the Lower Volga” in 4 volumes. Currently, the first volume devoted to the stone age of the region has been published.

Skripkin A. S. is the author of more than 260 scientific and educational works published in central and local publishing houses, as well as in Italy, Germany, England, and the USA. His scientific works are devoted to the fundamental problems of archeology of the early Iron Age of southern Russia. They made a significant contribution to the study of the history of the Sarmatians, to the development of the chronology and periodization of their culture, to the reconstruction of ethnopolitical and ethnocultural processes, to the study of the problems of economic relations in the early Iron Age of Southeastern Europe, as well as the functioning of the Great Silk Road.

Under the guidance of A.S. Skripkin or with his participation, archaeological sites in the Volga, Don, Kalmykia, Kuban, and Ukraine were studied. He was one of the leaders of the Russian-American archaeological expedition organized by the Volgograd and Mansfield Universities, which conducted excavations in the Lower Volga region and in the state of Pennsylvania in the USA (1997-2001).

A. Skripkin is the founder of the generally recognized Volgograd scientific school of Sarmatian archeology. For over thirty years, he headed the departments of historical profile, A. Skripkin made a significant contribution to the development of higher education, expressed in the improvement of educational and methodical work, in the organization of scientific work of students. His name is associated with the formation of Volgograd State University, the first teacher of which he has been since his foundation. He was invited to lecture at universities in the Czech Republic, China, and Germany.

For his services in the field of higher education of the USSR A.S. Skripkin was awarded the badge "For excellent success in work" and for his services in the field of higher education of Russia with the badge "Honorary Worker of Higher Education of Russia".

Archaeological expeditions led by A.S. Skripkin unearthed the burial mounds of Yutaevka (Ilovlinsky borough, 1967), Nekhaevsky, Mazin (Nekhaevsky borough, 1969, 1970), Kotluban (Dubovsky borough, 1971), Rybny (Nikolaevsky borough, 1976), Bykovo, Moguta, Krasnoselets, Verkhny Balykley (Bykovsky borough, 1975-1980), Gusevka (Olkhovsky borough, 2003), the sanctuary near the village of Trekhostrovskaya (Ilovlinsky borough, 1997, 2002) .

A.S. Skripkin published more than 260 scientific works, among which such monographs as “Lower Volga in the first centuries of our era” (1984), “Asian Sarmatia: problems of chronology and its historical aspect” (1990), “History of Volgograd lands from the Stone Age to the Golden Horde ”(2008). His scientific works were published in Italy, Germany, England, and the USA.
