History
The territory on which New Rozdol was founded was occupied by fields and hayfields until 1952 . Geologists have discovered a sulfur deposit here - one of the largest in Europe. Native sulfur of the Pre-Carpathian sulfuric region belongs to the sedimentary type. It lies beneath the surface of the soil at a depth of 35 - 130 m, which creates favorable conditions for the extraction of sulfur by the open pit method, the economic efficiency of which is 4-6 times higher than mine. The average thickness of the sulfur-bearing strata is 13 m, the maximum is about 30 meters. Due to the fact that sulfur is a strategic raw material for the chemical and military industries, in 1952 the USSR Ministry of Chemical Industry decided to build a large sulfur plant and a workers' settlement for the resettlement of builders and plant operators.
Already in 1959, by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR, New Rozdol was categorized as urban-type settlements. In 1960, the Council of Ministers of the USSR, Decree No. 315, decided to double the capacity of the Rozdol Mining and Chemical Combine, and on June 24, 1963, the USSR State Planning Committee decided to subsequently increase the production capacity. In 1963, by Decree of the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR, New Rozdol was categorized as a city of regional significance. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in December 2002 gave New Rozdol the status of a city of regional significance.
