History
Glinyany is one of the oldest cities in the Lviv region.
The territory on which the Glinyans are now located was inhabited already in the Late Paleolithic era , that is, about 20 thousand years ago. In the Old Russian period ( XI - XIII century ) there was a rather large settlement on the banks of the Poltva river [2] .
The first written mention of the Glinyans dates back to 1379 . In the first half of the XIV century. The Glinyans were part of the Galician-Volyn principality. Later, the settlement was part of the Lviv land of the Russian Voivodeship of Poland. On May 12, 1397, King Vladislav II Jagiello granted the Magdeburg Law to the Glinians, and transferred the surrounding lands to the Krushelnytsky family. Through the Glinyany there passed routes from Lviv to Moscow , Wallachia , Volhynia, Podolia, Bukovina.
The city belonged to the Polish king. In 1578, the Glinyans received the right to hold 3 fairs per year.
To protect against repeated raids by Turkish-Tatar detachments, a deep moat filled with water was dug around the city at the beginning of the 16th century , a high rampart was poured (partially preserved to this day). In 1603 a wooden and earthen castle was built.
Glinyany included in the list of historical cities and towns of Ukraine.

The canvas produced in Glinyany was exported to Gdansk . Subsequently, local weavers began to specialize in the famous Glinyansky carpets , tablecloths, towels. In 1886 , the artistic and industrial “Weaving Society” was organized here, and with it the weaving school. In 1921 , a carpet factory was established in Glinyany, the products of which were exhibited at exhibitions in Warsaw , Paris , New York . At the exhibition in Poznan in 1929, the Glinyansky carpets were awarded a gold medal. Until 1939, factory products received the highest awards at international Paris and New York exhibitions.
At the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries , the city was undergoing a “ brisk trade in bread " [3] .
In Glinyany, the factory of art products, as well as a cheese factory and others, do not work now.
