Biography
Born in Tbilisi, Georgian SSR in 1942 .
He graduated from the Moscow Mining Institute (today - the Mining Institute of NUST “MISiS” ).
He began his career in 1959 as an assistant driller in the Vakhrushevugol trust in the city of Karpinsk, Sverdlovsk Region.
From 1965 to 1983, he worked in Yakutalmaz , and from 1978-1983, he was the General Director of the Yakutalmaz Production Association.
In 1983 he was appointed deputy minister of non-ferrous metallurgy of the USSR.
In 1988-1991, he was the head at the rank of Minister-Head of the Main Directorate of Precious Metals and Diamonds Glavalmazzoloto under the Council of Ministers of the USSR.
In the period from 1989 to 1991, he took an active part in the aftermath of the devastating Spitak earthquake of 1988 and the restoration of the disaster zone.
In 1992, he was president of the Russian Almazzoloto Corporation, and in 1992-1994, he was president of the Diamonds of Russia - Sakha joint-stock company.
In 1994-1996 - a consultant in companies associated with the production of precious metals, worked abroad.
In 1996-1999 - the founder and president of the financial and industrial group Eurozoloto.
From December 1999 to June 2002 - Deputy Minister of Finance of Russia Aleksey Kudrin - Director of GOKHRAN under the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation.
In June 2002, he retired and was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Polyus gold mining company.
He died on December 13, 2016 in Moscow after a serious long illness.

He is a full member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Academy of Mining Sciences, Engineering Academy.
Rewards
In 1982, he was awarded the title of Laureate of the USSR State Prize for the development of new technology in the field of kimberlite pipe mining.
He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1980) and the Order of Lenin (1986).

He was awarded the Anania Shirakatsi Medal for his significant contribution to the cause of eliminating the consequences of the devastating earthquake of 1988 in Armenia, providing humanitarian assistance to the victims and organizing restoration work.
For personal assistance in the restoration of the houses of culture and for strengthening friendship between the Armenian and Russian peoples, the park of the community of Ashotsk was named after the honorary citizen of Ashotsk Valery Rudakov.
On May 3, 2011, in front of the House of Culture of the Gogovit rural community of the Shirak region of Armenia , the monument was unveiled to the honorary citizen of Ashotsk Valery Rudakov in gratitude for his contribution to the aftermath of the 1988 Spitak earthquake and the complete restoration of the villages of Gogovit, Arpeni and Torosgyuh in the Ashot district (previously Gukasyansky district) of Armenia [1] [2] .
