Goldberg is best known for a series of cartoons in which the so-called “ Ruba Goldberg machine ” appears - an extremely complex, cumbersome and confusing device that performs very simple functions (for example, a huge machine that takes up a whole room, the purpose of which is to move a spoon with food from a plate to human mouth).
In 1948, Goldberg received the Pulitzer Prize for his political cartoons, and in 1959, the Banshees' Silver Lady Award . [2]
Goldberg was one of the founders and the first president of the National Society of Cartoon [3] . His name is given to the Ruben Prize, which the organization awards the cartoonist of the year. In the United States, the Rub Goldberg Machine Competition is held annually.
