National Academic Drama Theater. Yakub Kolas ( Belorussian. The Natsyyanal Academic Drama Theater Yakub Kolas ) is a drama theater in the city of Vitebsk .

History
The theater was established on November 21, 1926 in Vitebsk as the Second Belarusian State Theater (BGT-2) from the graduates of the Belarusian Drama Studio in Moscow. The original repertoire of the theater consisted of productions prepared in this studio. The first performance is I. Ben. The studio also prepared for the theater the performances Tsar Maximilian, edited by A. Remizov and N. Mitskevich, A Midsummer Night's Dream by W. Shakespeare , Erot and Psyche by E. Zhulavsky , Bacchae by Euripides . At the end of the 1920s, the theater performed productions of " Breach " by B. Lavrenyov , and "The First Horse" by V. Vishnevsky .
During the Great Patriotic War, from 1941 the theater worked in Uralsk , and then (1943-1944) in Orekhovo-Zuev . In October 1944, the theater returned to Vitebsk.
In 1944, the theater was named after Yakub Kolas . In 1946, the Stalin Prize was awarded to the Volsky Theater for the play "Nesterka".
Since 1964, the theater has been operating in a building on the Millennium Square of Vitebsk (built in 1958, architect A. Maximov, I. Ryskin).
In 1977, the theater was awarded the title of academic, in 2001 - national.
Theater Building
The modern theater building (architects A. Maximov and I. Ryskin) was built in 1958. The main facade faces the square of the 1000th anniversary of Vitebsk (formerly Theater Square). The main facade is in the form of an eight-columned Doric portico completed with a triangular pediment . The side facades are decorated with rust , pilasters . The rear facade is designed in the form of a four-column portico. The three-tier auditorium with a stalls and two balconies seats 758 [1] spectators.
