Dissemination and ecology
The species range covers Iran ( Kopetdag ) and Turkmenistan (Kopetdag). Described from northern Iran.
It grows on gravelly and stony steppe areas of the foothills and in the middle belt of mountains, it is part of the upland- xerophilic groups.
Botanical description
The rhizome is woody, strongly branched. Stems are numerous, densely leafy, ascending, 6-8 cm tall, together with an inflorescence of 6-12 cm, greyish from velvety pubescence.
Leaves linear, sessile, 5–10 mm long (up to 15) mm, 1–1.5 mm wide, wrapped around the edge.
Inflorescences - dense and many-flowered brush , 3–7 cm long, lateral, in the axils of the upper leaves, strong, on peduncles 5–7 cm long. Bracts linear, 1–1.5 mm long. Calyx 3 mm long, four-fold, with linear fractions, not exceeding the box; corolla red, 6–7 mm in diameter, with rounded lobes 3 mm long.
Box 2.5 mm long, 3 mm wide, flattened, round at the apex and barely notched, glandous-pubescent. Seeds oblong, 1.5 mm long.
Blossoms in April - June.
