Plone can be used as an Internet and Intranet web server . The scope of the system is very wide: from simple pages to bulky corporate portals designed for internal and external use.

The project began work in 1999 and became one of the most popular publishing systems. In 2004 , the Plone Foundation was formed, which was transferred the copyright to the product.

In Russia, Plone began to be actively used after the release of version 2.0, in which a convenient system of translation into other languages ​​was implemented (as of December 2006).

System Requirements

For installation and administration, Plone requires [8] :

  1. connected to the Internet or Intranet server
  2. console access to the server (FTP is not enough)
  3. the ability to run background processes - daemons
  4. the opportunity to open your port

Content editing is done via the web and requires nothing but a web browser , preferably with JavaScript support.

Not all hosting providers offer Zope preinstalled. However, finding the right hosting with pre-installed Python is usually not a problem.

You can install and manage the Plone assembly using Buildout .
