The All-Russian Research Institute of Agricultural Economics was created in 1930 and is the lead institution for the organization, conduct, methodological guidance and coordination of research in the field of agricultural economics.

The institute has 18 research units, including 16 departments and 2 centers. Five scientific structural divisions are located in other regions of Russia: the Stavropol department, the Penza department, the North-Eastern department ( Izhevsk, Udmurt Republic), the Oryol department, and the Belgorod branch.
VNIIESKh - a school of highly qualified scientific personnel. Currently, the Institute employs 135 people, including 20 doctors of sciences (including two academicians and two corresponding members of the Russian Agricultural Academy, 16 professors), 42 candidates of sciences (of which 17 researchers have the title of associate professor and senior researcher). Three doctors of science have the honorary title “Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation” and 2 researchers - the honorary title “Honored Economist of the Udmurt Republic”.
In doctoral studies, postgraduate studies, a group of applicants are trained over 50 people. During the period of activity of the research institute, more than 1200 candidate and 160 doctoral dissertations were defended in his dissertation councils. Hundreds of scientists who have completed the Institute’s scientific school are headed by research centers, large agricultural organizations and enterprises not only in the Russian Federation, but also in foreign countries.
Areas of research: Agricultural policy in a mixed economy and market. Market functioning at the federal and regional levels. Organizational and economic mechanism of agricultural production. Formation and rational use of production potential. Scientific fundamentals of management. Social development of the village, the formation and use of labor resources. Foreign economic activity in the agricultural sector. Information support of agribusiness. In these areas over the past three years, more than 10 scientific developments of the institute have been completed and accepted for implementation on the instructions of the Russian Agricultural Academy, more than 25 of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia and over 20 on the instructions of other departments of the federal level, agricultural enterprises and institutions. The Institute conducts theoretical and practical studies on the assessment of entrepreneurship (business) in scientific organizations of the RAAS, and also deals with the practical assessment of real estate in the agro-industrial complex, including agricultural land.
The director of the institute is vice president of the Russian Agricultural Academy, academician of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences I. G. Ushachev [1] .
