History

The first written mention of Radekhov is dated 1474. The city arose on the territory of the Principality of Belz , which appeared in 1170 and was previously part of the Galicia-Volyn Principality [1] .

At the beginning of the XVIII century, Radekhov passed into the possession of the Count of Peace. In Radekhov, a large palace was built, which became the center of magnate latifundia. In the second half of the XIX century, latifundia passed to the family of Count Baden, who married the daughter of Peace. Baden was considered the seventh of the ten richest tycoons in the region and was governor of the emperor in Galicia . He rebuilt and expanded the palace, planted a park, built a greenhouse and ordered a three-meter stone wall to enclose his possessions. At that time, small industrial and trading companies were operating in Radekhov [1] .

In 1910, the construction of the Lviv - Stoyanov railway, financed by Baden, was completed in Radekhov. According to statistics, in 1880, 3,555 residents lived in Radekhov. 129 people served in a public court. At the end of the XIX century. at the beginning of the 20th century, there were a number of public organizations in Radekhov, in particular the society "The Rural Master", "The Brotherhood of Sobriety." For 16 years, the “Monetary Society of Friends of School Children” has been operating, the purpose of which was to provide financial assistance to poor children regardless of their nationality and religion [1] .

Since the second half of the XIX century, the Ukrainian society “Enlightenment” has been operating, which aimed to defend the Ukrainian language and culture from the encroachments of the imperial authorities. In Radekhov itself, the reading rooms of the society were opened in May 1897 [1] .
