Botanical Description

The stems at the base are woody, 10–25 mm high, numerous, ascending or spread, strong, end with leaves, grayish, short and curly pubescent.

Leaves sessile or very short petiolate , wedge-shaped at the base, once or twice pinnately dissected into very, narrow, linear, whole or notched lobes.

Brushes lateral, opposite, 2-4 in the axils of the upper leaves, short hairy, shortened, thick; pedicels barely longer than calyx, erect with fruits. The calyx is five - parted, with unequal, narrowly lanceolate lobes, of which the fifth tooth is the smallest; the corolla exceeds a calyx, 5-6 mm long, with a base with five veins, pale pink, purple, red, pale blue or bluish, with a short tube.

The box is equal to the calyx, slightly longer or shorter than it, truncated or obscurely notched, triangular-oblique, with a width exceeding the length, sphenoid, glabrous or shortly glandular to the base.

Distribution and Ecology

Territory of the former USSR : Caucasus (xerophilous regions of Karachay-Cherkessia , Ciscaucasia , Eastern Caucasus (including Dagestan ), Georgia (mainly in the Kura river basin), Azerbaijan ( Karabakh , Talysh , Cabristan ), Armenia (Lake Sevan basin, Akhalkalaki plateau , Zangezur , Aragats , Vedinsky district and adjacent), Nakhchivan Republic ), the southern part of Ukraine (to the lower reaches of the Dniester in the west), the Don steppes south of Kalach , the lower Volga ( Volgograd , Lake Baskunchak ), Crimea , between the Volga and the Urals (from Uzen to Uralsk ), Kazakhstan (on the river Cam Kara Turgay , Tersekkan and their tributaries); Asia : Turkey (especially the southern half), Iran (northwest, Kurdistan , Shiraz , Isfahan ), Syria , Lebanon , Iraq , Israel , Jordan .

It grows on dry grassy and chalky slopes, in shrubs , in xerophilous groups, in gardens, mountain steppes , in steppe subalpine meadows ; at an altitude of 2500 m above sea level.
