Biography
He studied violin and horn at the Kromeriz Conservatory, then studied conducting at the Bratislava Graduate School of Music with Ludovit Reiter ( 1958 - 1959 ) and at the Prague Academy of Musical Art with Alois Klima ( 1959 - 1962 ).
In 1966 - 1974 he headed the orchestra of the Armed Forces of Czechoslovakia, at the same time in 1969 - 1971 . led the orchestra of the North Bohemian Philharmonic in Teplice . He attracted wide attention of the Czech musical community, replacing the sick Nathan Rakhlin in concerts of the Prague Symphony Orchestra on February 20-21, 1968 with a complex program from the works of Beethoven , Richard Strauss and Prokofiev . In 1970, he founded the Dvořakovsky Chamber Orchestra, composed of soloists of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra , and led it for 10 years. In 1975 - 1986, the conductor of the Prague Symphony Orchestra, in 1986 he led the Symphony Orchestra of the Czech Radio . In 2004 - 2007, the main conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra .
Among Valek's recordings are all symphonies and piano concerts by Erwin Shulgof , a number of works by Antonin Dvorak , Boguslav Martin , Igor Stravinsky and others.
