Names known since the 19th century ; probably given by the name of one of the homeowners [1] . Earlier - Gorlov Dumb Lane. "Dumb lane" - that is, a lane that abuts building [2] .

Gorlov dead end begins from Novoslobodskaya street opposite Tikhvinsky lane from the northern edge of the Butyrskaya prison complex, passes to the south-west, Karelin passage adjoins it to the right, then rests against the city building, turns south and in a winding way as the courtyard passage goes to Novolesnaya street approximately opposite Shelter Lane .
