Liepa, Andris Marisovich

Andris Marisovich Liepa ( Latvian. Andris Liepa ) (born January 6, 1962 , Moscow ) is a Soviet and Russian ballet soloist, theater director and producer. People's Artist of Russia ( 2009 ) [1] . The founder of the Charity Fund named after his father - Maris Liepa [2] .

Biography

Andris Liepa was born on January 6, 1962 in Moscow in the family of People's Artist of the USSR Maris Liepa and actress of the Moscow Drama Theater. A. Pushkin Margarita Zhigunova [3] and got his name in honor of his great-grandfather, Andrei Liepa. Sister - Ilze Liepa , half-sister - Maria Liepa .

As a child, Andris spent winter and summer holidays in his father’s house in Riga, with his grandmother Lilia and grandfather Eduard Liepa, in the city center, on the street. Skolas , 18. It was there that he, under the guidance of his father, performed his first ballet exercise.

In 1980 he graduated from the MAHU (Prokofiev class).

In 1981, he became a laureate of the IV International Ballet Competition in the younger age group [4] .

At the end of the school - soloist of the Bolshoi Ballet . For eight years of work in this troupe, he danced leading roles in ballets of the theater’s classical repertoire. He left the scene after receiving a serious injury during a speech in Washington: he broke the cruciate ligament. [5] After this, the artist had to reconsider his life and find his talent application in the work of the choreographer and producer.

Currently, the artistic director and chief choreographer of the Kremlin Ballet Theater. [6] For 17 consecutive years, he was responsible for holding New Year trees and New Year's balls in the Gostiny Dvor in Moscow [4] .

When the director of the Latvian National Opera, Andrei агagars, revived the glory of this theater in the 1990s, he invited Andris Liepa to collaborate, who staged in Riga “Petrushka”, “The Firebird” and “Scheherazade” from “Russian Seasons” [4] .

In June 1999, the Sejm of the Republic of Latvia granted Andris Liepe Latvian citizenship for special services.

In 2007, he was awarded the highest award of Latvia - the Order of Three Stars [7] .

Spiritual Activities

As a child, Andris was baptized in a Lutheran church, like his father. Shortly before the fatal injury during a tour at the Mariinsky Theater, an employee of this theater presented the artist with the icon of Ksenia of Petersburg for luck. After reading the life of the saint, Andris survived a spiritual shock and decided to convert to Orthodoxy, having accepted the rank of anointing in the St. Petersburg Prince Vladimir Cathedral [4] . He became a church person, pilgrimage a lot, built a house near Diveevo , the monastery of St. Seraphim of Sarov .

Personal life

  • The first wife is Lyudmila Semenyaka , a ballerina at the Bolshoi Theater .
  • The second wife (from 1998 to 2012 [9] ) is Ekaterina Liepa (Katkovskaya), ballet dancer of the Mariinsky Theater.
    • Daughter - Xenia, named after St. Ksenia of Petersburg [4] .

Andris and his sister Ilze Liepa took the initiative to create in Riga in the house where their father lived, the Maris Liepa Memorial Museum. However, the house is privately owned and it still does not even have a memorial plaque [4] .

Stage

Andris Liepa resumed the ballet of M. M. Fokin's “ Vision of the Rose ” and since 1991 has performed it with various partners.

In 1994 he staged dances in Rimsky-Korsakov ’s opera The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh.

Together with Isabelle Fokina reconstructed Fokin's ballets: The Firebird on June 25, 1910, Scheherazade on June 4, 1910 and Petrushka on June 13, 1911, which were premiered at the Paris Opera by the efforts of Diaghilev and his entreprise (Les Ballets Russes de Serge de Diaghilev) [10] .

The premiere of the renewed performances took place on May 26, 1994 at the Mariinsky Theater [11] . In 2013 , together with G. G. Isahakyan, he resumed the production of the opera-ballet by M. M. Fokin “The Golden Cockerel ”.

The presentation of the film “The Return of the Firebird ” took place in the CDC on December 3, 2002 , the DVD was released later, the release date was February 11, 2003 .

Charity

Andris Liepa is a member of the Board of Trustees [13] of the Moscow Vera Hospice Charity Foundation [14] .

On November 1, 2013, Andris and Ilze Liepa on behalf of their family and in memory of their father donated the icon of the Holy Martyr Elizabeth Feodorovna to the Latvian Orthodox Church [4] . They also presented a new relic to the new Transfiguration Cathedral in Diveevo - an icon of the Savior bought by Maris Liepa, which is now placed in one of the front chapels of the church [4] .
