Biography
Born March 31, 1955 in the city of Kotor ( FPRY ). He graduated from the Law Faculty of the University in Podgorica . He worked as a legal adviser to local authorities. He began to engage in politics in his youth - at one time he was even head of the Union of Socialist Youth of Montenegro. But in 1986 he left this post. The collapse of Yugoslavia led the Montenegrin politician into the ranks of ardent supporters of the independence of Montenegro. In the early 90s, he was a supporter of the participation of Montenegrin reservists in the siege of the Croatian Dubrovnik .
In 1990, Svetozar Marovich was a deputy of the Assembly of Montenegro , and in 1994 - 2001 was a speaker. On March 7, 2003, S. Marović was elected President of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. According to the constitutional charter, he simultaneously became prime minister, but did not actually lead the state - for example, he did not control the foreign policy of Serbia and Montenegro separately. He himself was skeptical of such a union, considering him incapable.
During a visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, he apologized for the actions of the Yugoslav army in 1991-1996 . Helped the work of the Hague Tribunal .
On June 5, 2006, Serbia and Montenegro became separate states, and Svetozar Marovich automatically resigned.
Criminal Case
In September 2016, Marovich was sentenced in Montenegro to 3 years and 9 months in prison for abuse of power and corruption [1] . Marovich pleaded guilty [1] . In addition, Marovich is obliged to pay the state 1.1 million euros of damage and contribute 100 thousand to charity [1] . The execution of the sentence was postponed due to the state of health of the convict [1] . In May 2017, the National Bureau of Interpol of Montenegro issued a warrant for the arrest of Marović in order to bring him to the place of serving his sentence [1] .
Personal life
He knows four languages, including Russian, does not like noisy cities, therefore he lives in the city of Budva on the Adriatic Sea. Married, two children.
