Durban University of Westville , also University of Durban-Westville, is a university in the suburbs of Durban Westville, Kwazulu-Natal , South Africa . In 2004, Durban University merged with Natal University . [1] As a result, Durban University has become one of the campuses of the newly formed Kwazulu-Natal University .

It was founded in 1961 as the Durban Indian University College , designed specifically for the Indian population. In 1971, the college was reorganized into Durban University, for which a large new campus in Westville was built.
It was one of the few universities in South Africa that accepted a non-white population - first, Asians (mainly immigrants from India), and later blacks. During the apartheid years, the university was a major center for the student movement.
