History
The first mention of the Samovskaya volost (just such a spelling prevailed in the old days) refers to the beginning of the 17th century , [2] when it covered the entire southern part of the Karachevsky district (approximately corresponds to the territory of the present Shablykinsky district of the Oryol region , somewhat expanded to the north, west and south west). However, in the XVIII century this concept becomes historical and gradually goes out of use.
Somov volost was re-formed in connection with the introduction of volost division during the reform of 1861 ; was one of the largest in the county.
During the enlargement of the volosts, in 1924 the Somov volost was abolished, and its territory was annexed to the Shablykinsky volost .
Now the main part of the territory of the former Somov volost is included in the Shablykinsky district of the Oryol region ; insignificant parts enter Karachevsky and Navlinsky districts of the Bryansk region .
