Through the Paniks Pass, from Glarus to Graubunden, on September 25 (October 6) and September 26 (October 7), 1799, Russian troops were transferred under the command of Field Marshal Alexander Vasilievich Suvorov , who participated in the Second Coalition War through the Alps , in the direction of Austria . The troops went through the pass in deep snow, in dense fog, with snowfall and strong winds [1] . A memorial plaque in honor of this passage is installed on the pass. In the village of Elm , located at the foot of the pass, there is a “Suvorow House” ( German: Suworow Haus ), in which the field marshal stayed [2] . Along the route of the Russian troops, a historical and tourist trail “Suvorov Veg” ( German: Suworow-Weg ), with a length of 15 km [3], was organized.
