Markus Toivonen ( Finnish. Markus Toivonen ; born November 15, 1979 , Helsinki , Finland ) is the founder and solo and rhythm guitarist of the Finnish folk / MDM band Ensiferum . He founded it in 1995 and is the only one of the founders involved in it. He is the guitarist and main composer, as well as backing vocalist - he had to sing especially much after leaving the band Jari Maenpa in 2004 . Until now, Marcus has been actively singing along to Petri Lindroos and Sami Hinkke with both clean and harsh vocals, and also performs vocals himself.

Toivonen also founded the side project Speden Timantit and was a member of the short-lived black / death metal team Soulstream .
Marcus should not be confused with his namesake, Marcus Toivonen , the guitarist of Scent of Flesh .
Equipment
Marcus uses the Jackson Guitars SL2H Soloist electric guitar with EMG pickups , as well as the Crate Blue Voodoo 150w amp with the Mesa Dual Rectifier Cabinet. Less commonly, Marcus uses the Washburn Dime 333 (Dimebag Darrel Signature) guitar (on which he plays the Wacken Open Air record). Since 2010, Ibanez became the sponsor of the group. In this regard, Marcus and Petri began to use Ibanez RG3550MZ and RGD2120Z guitars
