Guardian Media Group plc (often referred to as ' GMG' ) is a UK company that owns a number of media assets, including The Guardian and The Observer . Belongs to Scott Trust . It was founded as Manchester Guardian Ltd in 1907 when Charles Scott bought the Manchester Guardian from his cousin Edward Taylor. The group became known as the Manchester Guardian and Evening News Ltd after the acquisition of Manchester Evening News in 1924 , and later became the Guardian and Manchester Evening News Ltd , reflecting the name change for the morning newspaper produced by the group. GMG acquired its real name in 1993 .

GMG includes a number of divisions and companies:
- Guardian News & Media (newspapers The Guardian , The Observer , website guardian.co.uk)
- GMG Regional Media (includes Manchester Online, Channel M)
- GMG Radio (a number of regional radio stations under the Smooth , Real and Rock Radio logos)
- Trader Media Group (The Auto Trader magazine and its website)
- GMG Property Services (software for real estate agencies, databases and software CFP Software , the design bureau The Media Design House and the consumer portal ThinkProperty.com )

Development
- In March 2007, GMG sold a 49.9% stake in Trader Media Group to Apax Partners as part of a transaction in which it was valued at £ 1.35 billion.
- In December 2007, it was announced that GMG, together with Apax, had a successful deal to acquire Emap’s B2B division for approximately £ 1 billion. [2]
- In February 2010 , the group sold Manchester Evening News and 31 local newspapers to Trinity Mirror plc for 44.8 million pounds. [3]
